Change to Lunch pick-up due to Shelter-in-place

posted Mar 20, 2020, 2:46 PM by Andrea Wheat

Athens Families:

During the “shelter-in-place” order, lunch will continue to be provided for all children age 18 or younger.  However, we do have a change in procedure.  Pick up location will only be at the Athens High School parking lot.  In addition, lunches will be available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  On Monday, each child will receive two lunches, on Wednesday each child will receive two lunches and on Friday each child will receive one lunch.  This should help reduce exposure for everyone.  Lunch pick up time will remain from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.  If you have any questions, please email Lisa Long at llong@athens-213.org.

Emergency Closing of Schools
Athens CUSD #213 is providing the following information on school cancellations or early dismissals of school due to weather and/or road conditions: The major consideration determining the cancellation of school will be the concern for safety and welfare of students and staff. Hazardous road conditions, caused by drifting of snow, ice accumulation, or extreme fog, may result in the cancellation or early dismissal of school. Also, dangerous temperature conditions because of extreme cold or wind chill factors may cause the school to be closed.

Weather-Related School Cancellations
If school is to be canceled due to weather conditions, the District will attempt to notify the media outlets listed below by 6:30 AM. This will occur after road conditions have been determined by driving bus routes in the District, consulting with road and law enforcement officials in the areas, and monitoring weather forecasts to assess developing conditions. Parents are encouraged to monitor radio/television broadcasting for cancellation information. PARENTS AND STUDENTS SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO CALL THE SCHOOLS SINCE SCHOOL ACCESS TO PHONES IS NECESSARY.

Weather-Related Early Dismissals
Once school is in session, every attempt will be made to complete the entire school day and dismiss at the regular time. Often, road conditions may be better during a winter storm later in the day because road crews have had the opportunity to plow or salt roads in the District. Again, weather forecasts will be monitored closely. Also, the District recognizes the burdens placed upon families caused by early dismissals because often the parents are working and may experience difficulties in making arrangements for childcare during the school day. Parents are again encouraged to monitor radio/television broadcasting for early dismissal information.
The following media will be notified of school cancellations and/or early dismissals. Radio Stations: WTAX(1240-AM), WDBR(103.7-FM), WFMB(1450-AM), WFMB(104.5-FM), WMAY(970-AM), WNNS(98.7-FM), WQLZ(92.7-FM), WQQL(101.9-FM), WYMG(100.5-FM), WMHX(93.9-FM) Television Station: WICS (Channel 20)

School Reach
The number that each parent provided at registration will be called if there were an emergency closing of schools.
