CES Community,
We have almost made it through our first full week of school. Things have gone really well and I am truly excited about my new position at Cantrall Elementary School. I am so fortunate to be working with so many great educators, and we as a staff are very fortunate to have the opportunity to interact with and teach so many great students.
Our CES staff did change a little bit over the summer break. We have some great additions to our building. Some of the additions are new to the district while others have come from the other schools that are a part of the Athens district. We are blessed to have each new staff member.
Staff Changes:
Ø We would like to welcome Miss Laura Cox to our 2nd grade team. Laura served as a gifted teacher in the Athens school district last year.
Ø Mrs. Lynne Morris is a new addition to our Kindergarten team. Lynne filled a maternity leave for us last year at the Kindergarten level and has subbed quite a bit in our building in previous years as well.
Ø Mrs. Christy Hibbs will serve as one of the guidance counselors for our district this year. Christy previously was a social worker at Midwest Central.
Ø Mrs. Amy Stickler is taking on a new role in our building this year. She will be the gifted teacher for our building as well as an Exploratory Teacher at CIS.
Ø Miss Katie Walser has joined our 1st grade team. Katie grew up in Williamsville and was able to do her student teaching at Sherman Elementary School last school year. Katie is filling our 1st grade vacancy due to Margaret Baugher’s retirement.
Ø Shari Dobill, our Early Childhood teacher, got married during the summer break and is now Shari Peters. Shari also has a new aide in her classroom. Paula Estes joins Shari in the Early Childhood room.
Ø Chip Jamerson will instruct Kindergarten Computers for us this year. Chip is just as excited about teaching the kindergarten classes as he is with his athletic director duties.
Ø Lois Avery will be a part-time speech teacher in our building this school year. Lois will be at CES on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. Lois recently retired as a speech teacher from the Williamsville School District.
Ø Mrs. Judy Coady will have two new faces in her classroom this year.
Ø Rebeka Roe will be student teaching during the first semester for Mrs. Coady while Charlotte Reiterman will be a full time classroom aide in Mrs. Coady’s room this year.
Ø Lorna Baker will be filling the maternity leave for Mrs. Amanda Gleason from the first grade. Lorna filled a maternity leave last year at CES as well. Mrs. Gleason gave birth to Wyatt Martin on 08/08/08.

Important Notes:
ü CES will be running on its regular time schedule starting on Tuesday, Sept. 2. School begins at 8:10 and students will be dismissed at 2:48.
ü Please be sure to send a note with your child if he/she will be picked up instead of riding the bus home.
ü We have been struggling with some email problems in our building. I apologize on behalf of the teachers and district if you have sent a teacher an email and wondered why you haven’t received a response. Hopefully the issues will be resolved soon.
ü Please be cautious and drive slowly when dropping students off in the morning before school. Make sure to obey the lane arrows when pulling up to drop off your child at the cafeteria/gym doors. Also, please make sure your child uses the crosswalk when he/she is walking across the parking lot.
ü Lunch times have changed a little since last school year. Kindergarten has split into two lunch times. Mrs. Godbey, Ms. Herr, and Mrs. Morris go to lunch at 11:10. Mrs. Shuck and Mrs. Coady go to lunch at 11:20. 1st Grade goes to lunch at 11:35. 2nd grade goes to lunch at 11:45. 3rd Grade goes to lunch at 11:55. We changed lunch times this year to help accommodate our large Kindergarten class.
The school year will roll along very quickly as we already are approaching September. Please take the time to ask your child what he/she is learning and doing each day. We will do our best to make your child’s educational experience as worthwhile as possible. We know it will be even more successful with help and encouragement at home.
Have a great Labor Day weekend.
Mr. Szoke
